WHAT IS RITAM

RITAM is a private initiative; it is an organization of concerned, committed and competent Traditional and Alternative Medicine Practitioners in Nigeria driven by the sole aim of  prospecting and harnessing most especially our Traditional Medicine knowledge to complement Government efforts in this line. Most countries of the world including our African neighbor countries have in line with W.H.O guidelines, developed their indigenous Traditional Medical Systems to enviable heights. In some instances such countries have . exported their Traditional Medical  Knowledge {TMK} to other countries thereby earning the much-needed foreign exchange. Acupuncture which is an important branch of Chinese Traditional Medicine {CTM} is now studied and practiced allover the world including the developed countries such as America, France, Germany etc. Acupuncture has gained global recognition and accolade as a veritable medical system thanks to the exceptional supportive role of the Chinese Government.

W.H.O statistics reveal that over 80% of the population in developing countries patronizes  TM and TM Practitioners {TMP's} for their health care needs. It will bewilder anyone if the  need of such a high percentage of a country's population is treated with levity. In the  realization of this, RIT AM is set up to pay commensurate attention to this most vital segment of the economy that would ensure optimal health and by extension, high productivity/massive employment and social stability in Nigeria. RITAM realizes that Nigeria is a signatory to the African Union {AU} Lusaka summit of Heads of State and Government declaration of July 200 I which declared the year 2001 - 2010 as Decade of Traditional Medicine and during which member countries must have institutionalized Traditional Medicine in their respective territories. However, there has not been a concerted effort at realizing the AU declaration even after the deadline date and despite a blue print or ACTION PLAN by AU for this purpose made available at the 2nd ordinary session of the conference of African Ministers of Health {CAMH} at Gaborrow, Botswana held between io" - 14th October 2005.Nigeria is blessed with abundant flora and fauna which are the basic raw materials for Traditional and Alternative Medicine Production. Amidst this rich biodiversity, this spectacular natural endowment, Nigeria is fast becoming a dumping ground for Traditional and Alternative Medicine Products from other nations notably China and USA. The rate of infant - maternal mortality, malaria scourge, diabetes, heart' attack etc is on the increase. RIT AM aims at evaluating and certifying Nigerian Traditional Medicine Products which should be used to treat various disease conditions that undermine the health of the citizens. We rely on the Gift of Nature, abundantly allocated to Tropical Regions such as Nigeria to address chronic, debilitating and degenerative diseases that have defied conventional western Medical System. TM meets the criteria of an ideal Medical System.
